Heartland Film Institute presents:
THE ART OF POST PRODUCTION
with Eric Maloney & Brice Bowman
Thursday, September 4, 2008
Join Heartland Truly Moving Pictures on Thursday, September 4th for an informative seminar with documentary editor Eric Maloney and sound designer Brice Bowman. For students interested in post production, those final steps in filmmaking, this is the perfect opportunity to learn more about this critical step in the filmmaking process.
Students with any level of filmmaking experience will benefit from insights into the craft of post production to complete their storytelling experience. Our presenters will share clips, editing examples and answer your questions about the post production process.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Long time friend of Heartland and award-winning editor Eric Maloney shares his experiences from the post production world. As a professional video editor for more than 20 years, Eric has seen a great number of changes in terms of technology and the way an editor approaches each project. From analog to digital, mechanical to virtual, video editors have to constantly and consistently relearn the way the job is done. However, the art of crafting a story from a jumble of images, sound clips and music cuts remains the same. It is an amalgamation of hard work, long hours, intuition, artistic vision and good luck.
After the film or video is edited, Brice Bowman goes to work crafting the soundtrack to accompany and support the picture and story. Utilizing dialog, music, sound effects, ambience and a host of digital tools, the soundtrack is woven into a seamless mix. Many of the same technological changes impacting video editing have also changed the world of audio post production over the past twenty years. Despite these changes, the art of audio editing is still all about story-telling. Sound Designer Brice Bowman will share some of his insights into creating and mixing sound for film and video.
